recentered using the tool a dozen time, brand new pilot bushing, even tapered the back end of the pilot bushing. Tried with and without tilting the engine, etc. Wiggling, jiggling, gets bolts started and trying to draw the two together, etc. I never destroyed a pilot bushing, so I couldn't have been too far off the mark. Nothing made it easy. I stabbed the trans two separate times (tears apart), and each was a never-ending, miserable experience. Other ppl tried, so it wasn't just my technique. The third time I knew I'd have to separate the engine and trans I dropped them together, and reinstalled them together. Not fun either, but better than the alternative, IMHO. I have dropping and replaced an E36 M3 trans and it was a piece of cake getting it stabbed compared to the Z.
